Willie Ervin, also known as Willo the Wiz (and alternatively as Willo tha Wiz, Willo Wiz, and Tha Wiz), is an American rapper from Houston, Texas.
Willo tha Wiz is an inspiring hip-hop artist. Though young in age, Willo considers himself an intelligent individual, wise with his lyrics—this being the essence behind his stage name. His music is often described as “reality music,” with a focus on clever and impactful lyrics.
Raised in the Acres Homes community of Houston, Willo’s upbringing was marked by hardship. The struggles of his environment provided much of the inspiration for his music.
Willo’s journey began in eighth grade, where he started freestyling in the back of his classes. His lifelong love for music, which began in his childhood, led him to realize that his passion was in the music industry.
In the summer of 1999, Wiz began working on his first studio recordings—a six-track demo. He had 200 cassette tapes produced and sold them independently on the streets. Following this initial hustle, he started entering and winning local talent competitions. One of these victories earned him the opportunity to perform on a side stage at the Houston Custom Car Show. At the time of this performance, Wiz was also in the process of recording his debut album for NI Records, a label founded by Willo and associate Yashron Willis (Yaries).
While working on his album, Wiz auditioned for several film projects slated to be shot in the Houston area. He was selected for a role in Wanna Be a Baller: The Movie by Lil Troy. Although he filmed two scenes, only one was included in the final cut. Since his appearance in Wanna Be a Baller, Wiz has gone on to act in various other film and video projects, with aspirations of establishing acting as a secondary passion, alongside his music career.
His album, My Muzic Is… My Life, features a diverse range of content—club tracks, street anthems, and songs tailored for female audiences. Additionally, two of his tracks received airplay on Houston radio stations. With the album now complete, Willo Wiz has been actively promoting his work, performing live shows, and seeking new collaborative opportunities to broaden his exposure.
Willo the Wiz’s 3rd track, “Touch da Flo,” from Willo the Wiz – My Muzic Is… My Life (2003) [Houston, TX], was also featured on Miss Money’s underground compilation mixtape titled Various Artists – Miss Money Presents Mob Money Vol. II. He also collaborated on the song “Ready for War” with James Flames, Jayo, and Baby Boy, from the same compilation.
